Biography

Lori A. Henderson is a Program Director at the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB), an institute at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and has 17 years experience with technical and managerial expertise in several scientific areas: bioengineering, biotechnology, materials science, nanotechnology, enzymology, and biomedical technologies. She currently manages the Nanotechnology and Drug and Gene Delivery programs within the Division of Discovery Science and Technology in the Extramural Division of the NIBIB. She also represents the NIH on the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) subcommittee on Nanoscale Science, Engineering & Technology (NSET). Her responsibilities at the NIH also include co-managing projects within the Nanomedicine, Interdisciplinary Research, and Regulatory Science programs supported by the NIH Common Fund. These trans-NIH and trans-agency programs include research projects that cut across scientific disciplines and challenges conventional thinking. Prior to the NIH, Dr. Henderson was a Group Leader of the Biomaterials Group within the Polymers Division at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). Before joining NIST in 2005, Dr. Henderson worked for Novozymes North America, BASF, and Akzo Nobel, where she was a research supervisor, global project leader, and a senior scientist. Dr. Henderson holds a M.S. degree in Macromolecular and Organic Chemistry, and obtained a Ph.D. in Polymer Science from University of Massachusetts, Lowell.
